Stimulus Payments in December 2025—Can You Use Them for Auto Loan Payments?
As the year 2025 ends, many American families are still dealing with rising prices and the need for financial help.
While large federal stimulus programs are no longer available, some states are offering rebates, dividends, or tax relief to help residents financially.
Some states will keep giving out these benefits until the end of 2025 and even into early 2026. In the final weeks of 2025, many people will still be able to receive payments.
States Sending Payments
Alaska and New York are two states that will continue sending out checks in December 2025.
Alaska: The state gives out money each year from its Permanent Fund. This payment, known as the Permanent Fund Dividend (PFD), is $1,000 for 2025.
Most checks have already been sent, but Alaska is still issuing payments for applications that are finishing up the approval process.
- Next Payment Dates:
- December 18, 2025: For people whose applications are approved by December 10, 2025
- January 15, 2026: For applications approved by January 7, 2026
New York: New York has a new one-time rebate program to help people deal with higher sales taxes caused by inflation. This program was included in the state's 2025-2026 budget.
- When Are Checks Sent?
- Checks started being mailed in late September 2025
- Over 8 million New Yorkers are eligible, so checks are being sent out over several weeks
- Some residents may receive their checks in December or even early 2026
If you live in Alaska or New York, make sure to check the latest guidelines and dates so you receive any payments you are eligible for.
Can These Payments Be Used for Auto Loan Relief?
While these payments are not designed specifically to help with auto loan relief, recipients can use the money as they see fit.
If you are behind on car payments or worried about an upcoming loan bill, these state-issued checks could provide some extra help to pay part or all of your auto loan, depending on the amount you owe and your individual situation.
If you’re struggling with auto loan payments, consider using any stimulus or rebate money you receive to stay current, avoid late fees, and protect your credit score.
Be sure to contact your lender if you need further assistance or want to discuss other relief options.
